How does the Gas Thermocouple measure temperature?

Gas Thermocouple is a common temperature sensor, which works on the principle of pyroelectric effect. The thermoelectric effect means that when two wires of different metals form a closed loop, at different temperatures, a small electromotive force difference will be generated. This electromotive force difference is proportional to the temperature difference between the two metal wires.

A Gas Thermocouple usually consists of two wires of different metal materials joined together to form a thermocouple loop. When one end of one wire is exposed to the gas whose temperature is to be measured, and one end of the other wire is exposed to a reference temperature (usually room temperature), a temperature difference is created between the two wires. Due to the different thermoelectric properties of the two metals, the difference in temperature results in the generation of an electromotive force difference.

This electromotive force difference can be converted into a corresponding temperature value by connecting it to a circuit of a thermometer or measuring device. Thermometers convert the emf difference into a temperature reading, depending on the thermocouple type and thermoelectric coefficient. Through calibration and calibration, the electromotive force difference can be accurately converted into an actual temperature value.
